Photographers Statement
Photography, the literal translation is to "draw with light." The light is recorded on photographic film or an electronic sensor, and viola, you have your image! How amazing is that? My image making is inspired by my family and the many talented photographers out there that create not just a photograph, but art.
Who am I, a friendly, free spirited photographer who on occasion does not shy away from being in front of the camera. My initial passion for photography began in front of the camera. I don't come from a long line of professional photographers, but a mom who was like most moms, and enjoyed having pictures of her children. I too enjoy taking pictures of my own children, people and nature, which is where my start as a professional photographer began. I thank my husband for encouraging me to pursue a career as a professional photographer, as he saw in me what I did not see in myself, the potential to make beautiful images.
One of the great things about photography is being able to freeze a moment in time, and go back and look at that moment years down the line. There are many images that I go back and look at and I remember how happy I felt that day, what aroma was in the air, what led up to the moment before the image was captured or what took place after the image was taken. To this day looking at old photographs bring back happy memories. My goal is to be able to preserve memories for my clients to look back on in the years to come, that bring them happiness. Whether that is a child's first step, a family portrait, a company function or a school event, a client's happiness and satisfaction is my ultimate goal. It makes me happy to play a part in preserving memories.
Whether my image is contrived (set up) or candid, my goal is to have the image look as natural as possible. In order to achieve a natural looking shot I believe it is important for the client to feel comfortable. Once I know my clients limits and comfort level it becomes easier to give the client what they are looking for, a technically sound image where the client looks their best. With the exception of candid shots, which are primarily taken at events, I like for my clients to look at ease in environments that they are most comfortable, which is why shoots take place at the clients home or an agreed upon location.
What does photography mean to me? It means to capture and preserve precious memories, one picture at a time. I consider myself not only a photographer but an artist. Combining the beauty of nature and my subject in one image, for a serene, unique and beautiful image to last a life time.
